It is very important to use the proper payment system to ensure timely, accurate posting of your payment.
Do not use this e-Payments service to make a payment for your Michigan Income Tax Return.

The following electronic payments may be made for the City of Detroit

  • Estimated Payment
    • Making a quarterly payment for the current tax year only
  • Annual Return Payment
    • Paying the balance due on your annual return
  • Proposed Tax Due Payment
    • Paying the balance due prior to receiving an Intent to Assess Letter
  • 10-Day Demand Payment
    • Paying the balance due on a 10-Day Demand Letter
  • Assessment Payment
    • Paying the balance due on an Intent to Assess or Final Assessment Letter
  • Audit Payment
    • Paying the balance due from an audit determination

e-Payment Options

eCheck (Free):

  • This option requires verification using your State of Michigan income tax return. For example: if making a payment in 2023, use information from your 2021 tax return that was filed in 2022 to authenticate.
  • By selecting this payment method, you will be initiating an Automated Clearing House (ACH) payment. This authorizes the Michigan Department of Treasury to initiate a direct transfer of funds from your financial institution. All eCheck payments must be initiated using an account at a US financial institution.

If you do not meet the above requirements, your options are to choose a Debit/Credit card e-Payment below or mail a payment to the appropriate address on your return or voucher.

Debit or Credit Card Payments

All City Income Tax filers may choose to make a payment using a debit or credit card.

  • Debit card payments will be charged a flat fee of $3.95.
  • Credit Card payments will be assessed a convenience fee of 2.30% of the total payment amount.
  • The fee will appear as a separate transaction on your bank or card statement and is paid directly to the payment processing company.

Payment Confirmation

  • You will receive an email confirmation once your payment is complete. If you do not receive an email, please check your SPAM folder.
  • Please allow two weeks for your account to reflect the payment made.
